Report: LANGENFELD OPEN 2017

První ročník Langenfeld Open od O’Neill je za námi a lze ho označit jako jednu z největších a nejlepších akcí konaných začátkem sezóny. Špičkový jezdci z více než 15 zemí se utkali na unikátních překážkách od UNIT. Překvapením závodů byli nezastavitelní jezdci z Ameriky Anna Nikstad a John Dreiling, kteří si oba poprvé dojeli pro své první místo v mezinárodním závodě. 

Po dlouhé pauze se největší wake centrum „Wasserski Langenfeld“ opět stalo pořadatelem mezinárodních wakeboardových závodů. 60 jezdců z 15 zemí se účastnilo prvního ročníku LANGENFELD OPEN.

Vzhledem k faktu, že se jednalo o závod, kterého se účastnili jezdci světové úrovně, na vodě bylo vidět to nejlepší z wakeboardingu vůbec a to hned od prvních jízd. Pouze 16 mužů z 46 a 8 žen ze 14 se probojovalo do finále. K překvapení všech hned v prvních kolech vypadli známí jezdci jako Dominik Gührs, Lior Sofer, Steffen Vollert, nebo Dylan Mille.

Na závod se přišlo podívat neuvěřitelných 2 500 diváků a bylo vidět, že to jezdce motivovalo ještě k lepším výkonům. V kvalifikaci se lokální rider a hrdina Nick Schäfers postavil výzvě v podobě thajské legendy Daniela Granta a stejně tak se tito dva setkali i v prvním head to head kole, kde Daniel Nickovi vrátil úder a vysloužil si tak místo v semifinálové osmičce.

Po napínavém boji osmi nejlepších se do finále probojovali tito jezdci: John Dreiling (WWA World Champion), Gunther Oka, Daniel Grant a Aaron Gunn. Ve dvou kolech mezi sebou bojovali o prize money v hodnotě  10.000$.

Gunther Oka se i přes svou důslednou jízdu neprobojoval do finálových jízd. Daniel Grant svou první jízdu odjel na jistotu. Teprve v druhé se pustil do technicky náročnějších triků, ale bohužel při Switch KGB 5 upadl a nepodařilo se mu tak dohnat body. John Dreiling zajel ten den své nejlepší jízdy, a každý jeho trik byl odjetý s neuvěřitelnou precizností.

Vítěz John Dreiling byl svým vítězstvím absolutně nadšený: "Jsem strašně šťastný, byl to úžasný den. Akce se zaměřila na všechny aspekty wakeboardingu. Normálně na závodech nemám šanci proti jezdcům, kteří vše sází na air triky, ale díky konceptu tohoto závodu jsem dnes tu šanci měl."

Po ohromujících kvalifikačních jízdách se bohužel Courtney Angus ve finále nedařilo a v obou kolech spadla. Maxine Sapulette z Nizozemska měla během svého dne všechny jízdy pod kontrolou a nakonec si dojela pro třetí místo. Otázkou bylo, zdali se tolik favorizované Julii Rick podaří vyjet si ve finále první místo...

Ale Anna Nikstad se nevzdala tak snadno a ve finále odjela technicky perfektní jízdu s triky jako jsou transfer Rail to Rail, nebo velkým KGB z kickeru, kterým v hodnocení předběhla 313 od Julie Rick. Anna si tak dojela pro své první vítězství v mezinárodním závodě Langenfeld OPEN.

The first edition of the LANGENFELD OPEN presented by O’Neill is in the books and marks a highlight of the early contest season. World class athletes from 15 different countries battle it out on a unique setup featuring UNIT Parktech hacks and wave breakers. Unstoppable were US Riders Anna Nikstad and John Dreiling, both taking their first win at a major international event.

After a long abstinence, the world’s largest Wakeboard Center „Wasserski Langenfeld“ returns as a host of international Wakeboard Contests. 60 riders from 15 different nations took part in the first edition of the LANGENFELD OPEN.

Due to the high-level riders field, the pressure was on from the first run of the day. Just 16 of 46 Men and 8 of 14 Women would advance into the head to head finals. Even a few top-class riders like Dominik Gührs, Lior Sofer, Steffen Vollert and Dylan Miller, were already eliminated after qualification.

An audience of 2.800 spectators pushed the excitement to the limit before the head to head finals started. In qualification, local hero Nick Schäfers accomplished the unthinkable and put himself in front of the thai superhero Daniel Grant. In the first Head to Head around Daniel and Nick had to go against each other again. But this time the thai struck back and saved his seat in the “round of 8”.

After intense battles in the „round of 8“, John Dreiling, WWA World Champion Gunther Oka, Daniel Grant and Australia ́s Aaron Gunn advanced to the super final. In two runs, the four athletes stepped up their game once again to get the best share of the 10.000$ prize money.

Gunther Oka was amazingly consistent all day but couldn’t put it together in his final runs. Daniel Grant laid down a save run at first and put it all on the line for his second run. Unfortunately, he fell on a „switch KGB 5” and couldn’t raise the bar even further. John Dreiling, however, went for the best run of his day and executed every trick in perfection.

Winner John Dreiling was stoked about his win: „I am super happy, that was a perfect day for me. The contest covered every aspect of wakeboarding. At the typical events that I attend, I don’t get to ride against Air Trick focused riders. It was nice, that with the alternative Kicker, it was possible today.”

After a stunning performance all day, Courtney Angus got unlucky in the final and fell in both of her runs. Maxine Sapulette from the Netherlands was in control of the course all day and made it to 3rd place at the end. The question was if odds-on favorite Julia Rick could claim first place.

But Anna Nikstad wouldn’t surrender that easy. She put down a perfect executed and technical run with rail to rail transfers and stomped a big “KGB” of the Kicker, which stood against Julia’s “313”. At the end, Anna Nikstad claimed her first win at a major international event at the first edition of the LANGENFELD OPEN.
